A more sober subject of Africa is its deepening suffering and poverty. Africa contributes such a miniscule amount to world GDP and also sees with it an unacceptibly high HIV and AIDS rate. The obstacles to overthrowing these issues, which are robbing too many children of their right to youth, are slowly being addressed but with failure of political and public figures to take educated and positive stands on these issues ( for more information search for 'showers' and 'the power of beetroot' ) and failure of cultural convention to protect its women and children, it seems that the numbers of AIDS orphans will only continue to increase. In the Eatern Cape however huge advances are being made in bringing ARVs to this impoverished community. A sad reality is that what often stands in the way of a less cruel life is simply money and profits.
