The Justin Clarke Portrait

Justin Clarke
Artist: Taf [Tafadzwa Mukwashi]
Diptych, oil on canvas
406mm x 508mm, 406mm x 508mm

Justin Clarke, Co-Founder and Chairman of Private Property, is the man in the 20th portrait of Facing a Century. The dichromatic, Pop Art diptych by the artist Taf [Tafadzwa Mukwashi] is a textured oil painting over two individual box canvasses.

Justin Clarke‘s bold property portal, Private Property, was started in 1999 in his garage. The merger of technology and property allowed private sellers to list and sell their properties. With slogans like ‘You must be crazy to pay a commission!‘, Private Property was set to change the face of the real estate industry forever and was initially met with great resistance from some existing real estate heavyweights. Systematic attempts to shut Private Property down were however completely unsuccessful as Justin is the type to take up a challenge, rather than run from a threat.

Today, Private Property is South Africa’s busiest property portal, with over 500 000 registered users and 1 million unique visitors each month. Justin attributes the exponential growth and success to Private Property‘s commitment to always keep up with the latest, world class technology, giving users both web and mobile access to the site and a shift in strategy in recent years to allow engagement with real estate agents as well as private sellers. Justin and his team are passionate and daring in all that they do. They have proven themselves to be ‘tenacious and innovative in their quest to constantly challenge themselves in an ever-changing industry’.

Justin Clarke, a gutsy serial entrepreneur and Durbanite with a love of the outdoors and skiing and a dangerous flirtation with risk, simply ‘digs Africa’ and is living ‘the South African Dream’. He believes wholeheartedly in South Africa and its diverse and great people filled with spirit and courage.

Thank you, Justin, for being a part of Facing a Century.
[Many thanks to Sue Clarke!]
