The 21st portrait of Facing a Century is of Thomas Kolster, the author of the upcoming book, ‘The Bible of Goodvertising‘, marketing and advertising consultant and the founder of The Pop Art diptych by the artist Taf [Tafadzwa Mukwashi] is a textured oil painting in lamp black and white, over two individual box canvasses.

Thomas Kolster was born in 1978 in Denmark to a politically active father and a mother who was a teacher. Growing up, dinner table discussions for him were about environmental, political and human rights issues. It was during this early period in his life that Thomas became interested in social issues. He firmly believes that he has a responsibility towards the less fortunate members of our global community and believes in equal opportunities for all.

Thomas started off in the advertising industry by experimenting with new advertising models that were more about greater value and engagement with consumers, and less about forceful ad campaigns. Thomas is not a fan of advertising that is disruptive or self-serving. His is the type of advertising that truly makes a difference, responsible advertising that is all about shared interest. He is passionate about creativity that makes our world better. The next, natural step for him was goodvertising. ‘Goodvertising’ is advertising for good – an overarching term that covers everything from marketing for causes to public awareness campaigns and corporate social responsibility.

Thomas now lives in Cape Town where he continues to consult, give talks, inspire and write. He is a strong advocate for social innovation, sustainability and green action, both here in South Africa and abroad.

‘The business and advertising landscape is undergoing one of its most fundamental changes as the mistakes and damages of the past are becoming evident. The recipe for success (and survival) is simple: Big Hearts & Big Ideas.
…it’s about aligning your passion with your compassion and your mission with a vision for a better world. It’s about leading people to a new sustainable and responsible reality they might not even know existed.’ – Thomas Kolster

A Dane in Africa with a big heart and a world-changing vision… thank you, Thomas Kolster for lending your face to the Journey!
